Musica Mixta is a music organization offering a diverse variety of styles and performances, including dance, theater, and art. With a dedication to creating unique and captivating experiences in the greater Portland, OR area, we take pride in our innovative approach to music and the arts and champion the philosophy that artists should continue to explore the new and collaborate on the unexpected.

How It All Started
Musica Mixta was born out of founder/director Jessica Blau's desire to combine her passion for the two art forms that had previously remained separate from one another in her artistic career—classical singing and flamenco.
Immersed in the highly structured world of opera for more than a decade, Jessica longed for the freedom and individualism of flamenco, an art form to which she had dedicated herself prior to opera. Each art form is wildly different, yet her knowledge of both gave insight as to how each one could benefit and grow from the other.

The desire to explore the intersection of these two genres pushed Jessica to create her first production combining flamenco dance with classical music in 2022 called Sojourns on the Silk Road. From this first seed of creativity grew an intense desire to create a platform not only for her own artistic pursuits, but for other artists who don't fit neatly into any singular box.
Since it's inception in January of 2025, Musica Mixta has produced original performances from the highly curated to the improvisational, featuring the talents of Portland's finest musicians. The most common response to a Musica Mixta show is "Wow, I've never seen anything like that before!"
